Kai Duan

Senior Project Manager at Natural Resources Defense Council

Kai Duan has extensive experience in environmental and sustainability management. Kai most recently worked as a Senior Project Manager at the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), where they were responsible for developing and delivering Greening Belt and Road Projects under the China Climate and Energy Policy Team. Kai worked closely with research partners and government agencies to conduct policy analysis and promote low-carbon transitions in Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) countries. Prior to that, Kai was a Manager (Climate Change & Sustainability) at KPMG China, where they managed environmental and social due diligence projects and provided advisory services on sustainability reporting and green finance. Kai also has experience as a Project Manager and Senior Environmental Expert at RINA, where they worked on environmental impact assessments and EHSS compliance for international financial institutions. Earlier in their career, Kai worked as an Environmental Impact Assessment Expert for the Ministry of Ecology and Environment in China and as a Research Assistant at the Friesland Water Authority.

Kai Duan began their education journey in 1998 at Yanshan University, where they pursued a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) degree in Environmental Engineering. They completed this program in 2001.

Following their bachelor's degree, Kai Duan enrolled at Van Hall Larenstein University of Applied Sciences in 2001 and graduated in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science.

Continuing their academic pursuits, Kai Duan then attended Wageningen University & Research from 2003 to 2005, where they earned a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Environmental Science.
