Alfonso Martin Peña

Alfonso Martin Peña is an accomplished academic and researcher specializing in neuroscience, currently serving as Associate Editor for Nature Portfolio since September 2023, and as Co-Director of the Summer Neuroscience Internship Program at the University of Florida since January 2025. Peña holds the position of Assistant Professor and is a faculty member at the Center for Translational Research in Neurodegenerative Disease at the University of Florida since August 2021. In addition, Peña has a longstanding affiliation with the Florida Atlantic University as an Affiliate Research Assistant Professor since October 2011. Peña's research experience includes significant postdoctoral work at the University of Florida, Baylor College of Medicine, and The Scripps Research Institute, with a focus on the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative diseases, long-term memory traces, and synaptogenic processes. Academic qualifications include a PhD in Neuroscience from Universidad Complutense de Madrid, complemented by an MSc and BSc in the same field.
