Wesley Knapp

Chief Botanist at NatureServe

Wesley Knapp is currently the Chief Botanist at NatureServe, where they collaborate with others to address extinction events and prioritize conservation efforts for rare plants. Wesley has also worked as a Research Associate at the Missouri Botanical Garden. Prior to that, they served as an Instructor at the Wetland Training Institute and as a Regional Reviewer for the Flora of North America project. Wesley has held various ecological and botanical roles in organizations such as the North Carolina Natural Heritage Program, Botanical Research Institute of Texas, Maryland Invasive Species Council, Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife and Heritage Service, The Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife and Heritage Service.

Wesley Knapp completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Sciences from Catawba College between 1997 and 2001. Wesley then pursued a Master of Science degree with a focus on Plant Science and Plant Systematics at Delaware State University from 2002 to 2005. Currently, Wesley is enrolled in the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where they are expected to graduate in 2024 with a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Ecology.
