MELISSA also owned and managed their own medical practice called Trinity Family Medicine, where they provided care to a wide range of patients and implemented a house calls service. Early in their career, they worked as an Independent Contractor for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and as a Physician in Family Medicine at Austin Regional Clinic.

Dr. Urrea pursued their education at The University of Texas at Austin, where they completed their undergraduate studies.

Melissa Urrea, M.D. holds a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree from The University of Texas Medical Branch. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Chemistry from The University of Texas at Austin. MELISSA also holds an additional Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Chemistry from the same institution. In terms of certifications, they are a Fellow of the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians (ABQAURP) and has obtained the Health Care Quality and Management (HCQM) and the Physician Advisor Sub-Specialty designation, CHCQM-PHYADV from the same institution. MELISSA is also a Board Certified Physician by the American Board of Family Medicine.
