Melissa Urrea

Melissa Urrea, M.D. has a diverse work experience in various medical roles. MELISSA currently serves as the Vice President of Medical Affairs at naviHealth, where they provide clinical leadership and strategic direction. Prior to this, they worked as a Senior Executive Medical Director and Executive Medical Director at the same company, overseeing key clinical relationships and supporting business development. MELISSA also had experience as an Interim Executive Medical Director, providing support to new business development and managing Medical Directors.

Before joining naviHealth, Dr. Urrea worked as a Lead Medical Director at another organization, where they interacted with health plans and providers to navigate shared relationships and solve problems. MELISSA also has experience as an Author, having written and published a fiction novel called "Thin Yellow Line". In addition, they worked at Catholic Health Initiatives as a Market Medical Director/Internal Physician Advisor, ensuring compliance with CMS guidelines and conducting medical record reviews.

Dr. Urrea's previous experiences include working as a Medical Director at Humana, where they provided physician review services for utilization management, and at Optum Physician Advisor Solutions as a Senior Medical Director/Team Lead/Physician Advisor, specializing in clinical review and appeals. MELISSA also owned and managed their own medical practice called Trinity Family Medicine, where they provided care to a wide range of patients and implemented a house calls service. Early in their career, they worked as an Independent Contractor for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and as a Physician in Family Medicine at Austin Regional Clinic.

Dr. Urrea pursued their education at The University of Texas at Austin, where they completed their undergraduate studies.

Melissa Urrea, M.D. holds a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree from The University of Texas Medical Branch. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Chemistry from The University of Texas at Austin. MELISSA also holds an additional Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Chemistry from the same institution. In terms of certifications, they are a Fellow of the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians (ABQAURP) and has obtained the Health Care Quality and Management (HCQM) and the Physician Advisor Sub-Specialty designation, CHCQM-PHYADV from the same institution. MELISSA is also a Board Certified Physician by the American Board of Family Medicine.
