John Drain is the Vice Chair at Nazareth College. Prior to their current position, John was the Acting COO at Ultimark Products, LLC from August 2009 to September 2010. John raised $10M in private placement equity for the startup consumer products company.
Before Ultimark, John was with Comcast Spotlight, Inc from September 2002 to August 2009 as the Senior Vice President of Finance and Administration (Divisional CFO). Comcast Spotlight is the advertising sales division of Comcast. In 2008, Spotlight had revenue of $1.6B, which represented 11% of Comcast’s operating free cash flow.
As the Divisional CFO, John was responsible for an annual $580M expense profile and $100M in annual capital expenditures. John led a 190 member finance/accounting team and 40 member human resource team supporting 3,500 employees. John was a key participant in all Division strategic decisions and directed all finance, human resource, and legal operations.
John was brought in at a pivotal time and handled the transition of AT&T cable ad sales. John also led the operational integration of Comcast acquisitions into the Spotlight Division, which involved 2,500 additional employees and multiple operating systems.
In addition to their leadership in finance, John had notable success in retaining and developing promotable talent for advancement to senior positions within the Company. John also created first Diversity Council and Talent Management effort for the Spotlight division.
Some of John's other accomplishments include partnering with key vendors to realize annual savings of $70M and to increase revenue generation through reduced channel insertion costs; spearheading division restructuring resulting in a $65M cost profile reduction; designing and standardized all compensation plans for executive management, sales leadership, sales commission, and incentive compensation; executive lead on the development of enhanced reporting, billing, traffic and information systems to improve customer service and expand metric analysis tied to revenue generation; cardinal to the acquisition and integration for key strategic vendors resulting in significant operational synergies and equity appreciation; and chairing an internal task force that encompassed a cross section of Comcast departments.
John Drain earned their MBA in Managerial Accounting from Pace University - Lubin School of Business. John also holds a B.S. in Business Management and Accounting from Nazareth College. In addition, they are Certificed Public Accountant (CPA) from the State of New York.
