Joanna Meriwether

Senior Organizational Learning Specialist at Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island

Joanna Meriwether has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries and roles. Joanna started their career as a Technical Writer at IDX (now GE Health) in 2000, where they worked on pharmacy products documentation until 2003. From 2004 to 2005, they served as the Project Director for the Colorectal Cancer Reduction Initiative at The Rhode Island Cancer Council. Joanna then transitioned into social work, interning at The Miriam Hospital from 2008 to 2009 and the Department of Veterans Affairs from 2009 to 2010, where they conducted needs assessments, provided psychosocial interventions, and handled case management.

In 2013, Joanna joined Virgin Pulse/Preventure as a Trainer/Educator, conducting health and wellness education seminars at various workplaces. Joanna excelled at tailoring their presentations to different audiences and providing coaching and technical education. Joanna continued in this role until 2019 when they transitioned to Lifespan as an Educator and Curriculum Developer for an asthma education and skills development project. This involved developing and delivering training, creating curriculum materials, and managing the project.

Joanna's passion for education and training also led their to work at PACE Organization of Rhode Island from 2021 to 2022 as the Training & Internship Coordinator. Joanna managed the internship program, collaborated with universities, and oversaw the learning management system. Most recently, in 2022, they joined Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island as an Organizational Learning Specialist.

Throughout their career, Joanna has honed their skills in program management, curriculum development, public speaking, project management, and technical education. Joanna has also demonstrated their ability to assess client needs, provide tailored resources, and deliver motivational coaching.

Joanna Meriwether obtained their Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Community Health Education from Western Washington University, where they studied from 1993 to 1997. Joanna then pursued their Master of Social Work (MSW) degree at Rhode Island College from 2008 to 2010, specializing in a thesis on Horizontal Violence. In 1998 to 2000, they attended Bellevue College to earn a Certificate in Professional, Technical, Business, and Scientific Writing. Joanna also obtained a Certificate in Coaching from the Wellcoaches School of Coaching in 2012 to 2013. Recently, in 2021, they earned a Certificate in Instructional Design from The Instructional Design Co. In addition to their formal education, they have obtained certifications in Instructional Design Essentials: Models of ID, Instructional Design: Needs Analysis, and Instructional Design: Storyboarding from LinkedIn in April 2021.
