Uma Viswanathan serves as the Executive Director of New Pluralists since April 2021, where responsibilities include fostering a culture of pluralism in America. Previously, Uma held the position of Senior Program Officer at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, focusing on empowering communities through resource investment. At the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, Uma contributed to racial equity initiatives, overseeing a $40 million grants program aimed at strengthening democracy across diverse communities. Earlier roles included Director of Leadership Development at Urban Habitat, where innovative initiatives were directed to enhance regional equity, and Director of Strategy and founder of Nouvelle Vie Youth Corps at the International Association for Human Values, where strategic development supported community empowerment in Haiti. Uma's career began as Project SMART Coordinator at Safe Horizon, emphasizing violence prevention in youth education. Uma holds a B.A. in Psychology and a Master of Arts in the History of Science from Harvard University.
