Helen Thomson has a diverse work experience, starting their career in 2006 as an intern reporter at New Scientist. Helen then worked as a reporter at CERN and later took on roles as a copywriter at Capital Radio and a sub-editor at Channel 4. In 2007, they joined New Scientist again as a careers editor and reporter, eventually becoming the biomedical news editor and then the senior reporter. Starting in 2014, Helen worked as a freelance journalist and editor for various publications, including The Guardian, Nature, and the BBC. In 2015, they became an author, publishing a book called "UNTHINKABLE: An extraordinary journey through the world's strangest brains". Since 2022, Helen has taken on positions at New Scientist as the deputy head of features and is currently the head of features.
Helen Thomson completed their education history with a Bachelor of Science degree in Neuroscience from the University of Bristol. Helen furthered their studies by pursuing a Master of Science degree in Science Communication at Imperial College London.
