Lauren Hamid-Shapiro, AICP, has a diverse work experience spanning multiple government and consulting roles. Currently, Lauren serves as the Director of Capital Planning at the NYC School Construction Authority, where they manage project requests and data to support decision-making and building utilization plans. Prior to this, Lauren worked at the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (NYC DEP) as an Executive Project Manager, overseeing special projects related to water and sewer infrastructure, capital planning, and operational efficiency. They also held the role of Assistant Quality Program Manager at the Croton Water Filtration Plant, where they developed industrial function guidelines and implemented an environmental health and safety program.

Before their time at NYC DEP, Lauren worked as a City Planner at the NYC Department of City Planning, where their responsibilities included managing applications for building development and rezoning projects and reviewing environmental assessment statements. They also served as an intern at the Environmental Assessment and Review Division, where Lauren developed standard operating procedures and metrics to track workflow efficiency.

Additionally, Lauren has experience as a Graduate Student Consultant at STAR Communities and as a Summer Outreach Intern at the New York Public Interest Research Group (NYPIRG). They also worked as a Research Intern at the Office of New York State Assembly Member Daniel O'Donnell.

Overall, Lauren Hamid-Shapiro brings a strong background in project management, environmental analysis, and regulatory compliance to their current role as Director of Capital Planning.

Lauren Hamid-Shapiro, AICP, received a Master of Public Administration (MPA) with a focus on Environmental Science and Policy from Columbia University in 2012. Prior to that, they completed their undergraduate education and obtained a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Health/Health Care Administration/Management from Brandeis University in 2008. In 2007, Lauren also had the opportunity to study European Studies/Civilization at the Danish Institute for Study Abroad. Apart from their academic achievements, Lauren obtained their AICP certification from the American Institute of Certified Planners in December 2020.
