Alvaro Sarmiento

Lead Project Engineer I at New York Power Authority

Alvaro Sarmiento has work experience with multiple companies in various roles. Alvaro started their career with Johnson Controls in 1996 as an Operations Manager and worked there until 1999. Alvaro then joined New York City Transit in 1999 as a General Superintendent, where they remained until 2009. In 2009, Alvaro joined New York Power Authority as an Energy conservation program engineer and eventually became a Lead Project Engineer I in May 2018.

Alvaro Sarmiento has a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Universidad del Norte. Alvaro also attended Palo Verde High School in Tucson, AZ, where they studied Electronics. Alvaro completed their Master of Science degree in Energy Management at the New York Institute of Technology. Alvaro furthered their education by obtaining a Professional Continuing Education in Green Building from HeatSpring. Alvaro has additional certifications as a Certified Building Commissioning Professional from the Association of Energy Engineers, obtained in December 2016, and as a Certified Energy Manager (CEM).
