SHE Critical Risk Network Lead at KiwiRail

Theresa Labuschagne has extensive work experience in the field of health, safety, and environment (HSE). Theresa started their career at Ampath Trust as a Biomedical Technologist before moving on to work at NOSA as an SHE Auditor and Quality Manager. Theresa then joined Necsa as a Senior SHE Systems Auditor, where they conducted audits and developed training programs. Following that, they worked at Safework Consultants as a Managing Member and HSE Consultant, specializing in health and safety consulting for various industries. Theresa later joined Anglo American as a Senior SHE Specialist, where they provided strategic and operational support across multiple exploration sites. Theresa then worked at KiwiRail as a SHE Systems & Risk Advisor, responsible for maintaining the enterprise's risk register and facilitating risk assessments. Theresa also served as a Senior Health Safety Environment Advisor at Babcock Australia & New Zealand, leading HSE initiatives and conducting incident investigations. Currently, Theresa is working at KiwiRail as the SHE Critical Risk Network Lead, overseeing governance groups and providing strategic guidance for risk management.

Theresa Labuschagne has a diverse and extensive educational background. Theresa holds a Chartered Manager certification from the Institute of Managers and Leaders Australia and New Zealand and the Chartered Management Institute. Theresa also obtained a CertProf NZISM certification from the NZ Institute of Safety Management, and they are listed on the HASANZ Register of H&S Professionals.

In terms of their formal education, Theresa earned a Diploma in Leadership & Management and a Diploma in Business Administration from The College For Adult Learning in Australia. Theresa also completed the Expeditions Leadership Development Programme - Navigators from Duke Corporate Education.

Furthermore, they hold an Advanced Diploma in Workplace Health & Safety from Asset College (RTO 31718) in Australia. In previous years, they received a National Diploma in Biomedical Technology from Tshwane University of Technology in South Africa, where they graduated "Cum Laude" and was the Chancellor's Top Student in the Faculty of Natural Sciences. Prior to that, they obtained a Certificate in Clinical/Medical Laboratory Assistant from the same university.

Theresa Labuschagne completed their secondary education at Pretoria High School for Girls, earning their Senior Matric Certificate. Additionally, they hold a Silver Diploma in Latin American Dancing from FEDANSA.

Theresa has also acquired various additional certifications, such as ProfNZISM from the NZ Institute of Safety Management, SAIOH Technician Membership from the South African Institute of Occupational Hygienists, and SAIOSH Graduate Membership from the South African Institute for Occupational Health and Safety. Theresa is also a SAATCA Lead Auditor for Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems and has an HPCSA Biomedical Technologist certification.

Theresa is an Individual Member of RiskNZ and a Fellow Manager with the Institute of Managers and Leaders Australia and New Zealand. Additionally, they completed the Community of Safety Innovation Cohort 3 Member program by WorkSafe New Zealand.
