Matthew C. Coates

Matthew C. Coates is an experienced executive in the energy sector, currently serving as the VP of Development at NextEra Energy, Inc., where leadership of the North American competitive development team for NextEra Energy Transmission is a primary responsibility. Previously, Matthew held various senior leadership roles at RES from 2018 to 2023, including SVP of Americas Integration Services and SVP Commercial, managing P&L, commercial operations, project procurement, and project controls. Prior experience includes senior positions at Nordex/Acciona Windpower, Underwriters Laboratories, and GE, where Matthew developed expertise in sales, project development, contract negotiations, and strategic market entry. Academic qualifications include a BS in Industrial Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology, an MBA from Emory University's Goizueta Business School, and a BA in Engineering from Maryville College.
