Collins B. Kukunda

Research Scientist at NIBIO

Collins B. Kukunda has a diverse work experience spanning various research and project management roles. Collins B. is currently employed as a Research Scientist at the NIBIO Norwegian Institute of Bioeconomy Research since November 2020. Prior to this, Collins worked as an Associate Research Scientist at The University of Göttingen from March 2019 to September 2020. Collins B. also served as a PHD Candidate at the same university from October 2013 to February 2019.

In 2015, Collins gained experience as a Research Fellow at Natural Resources Canada for a brief period of time. Before that, they worked as a Community Projects Officer at co2balance from January 2011 to August 2011. Collins started their career as a Research Assistant at Makerere University in September 2009 and continued in that role until January 2011. Additionally, they took on the responsibility of Geospatial Database Manager at Makerere University from January 2008 to December 2010, where they coordinated the capture, management, analysis, mapping, and modeling of plant species data at the Makerere University Herbarium.

Collins B. Kukunda pursued their education in a systematic and progressive manner. Their educational history began in 1998 when they attended St. Mary College Kisubi for their O Level studies, focusing on General Science. Following the successful completion of their O Levels in 2001, they enrolled at Ntare School for their A Level education from 2002 to 2003. During this period, Collins focused on subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics.

After completing their A Levels, Collins B. Kukunda pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Conservation Biology from Makerere University. This degree, obtained between 2004 and 2007, provided him with a solid foundation in the field.

Seeking further expertise in their domain, Collins then pursued a Master's degree in Geo-information Science and Earth Observation for Environment Modelling and Management. From 2011 to 2012, they completed the first year of this program at Lund University. Collins B. continued their studies at the University of Twente from 2012 to 2013, completing the second year of the program.

To deepen their knowledge and expertise even further, Collins B. Kukunda then pursued a Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) in Forest Sciences and Forest Ecology. Their doctoral studies were undertaken at The University of Göttingen from 2014 to 2019.

Throughout their education, Collins focused on building a strong foundation in the field of environmental science, specifically within conservation biology, geo-information science, and forest ecology.
