Prabhakaran Neelakantan has a vast work experience in the field of education. Prabhakaran started their career at the National Institute of Technology, Calicut (formerly known as REC Calicut) in 1971 as a Professor. Throughout their tenure, they held various administrative positions including Head of Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Chief Warden, Professor-in-charge of Library, and Professor-in-charge of vehicles. Prabhakaran was also involved in the development of the digital library "NALANDA" and the establishment of a campus school called SPRIG VALLEY SCHOOL. In 2001, they took voluntary retirement to pursue a teaching job in Singapore polytechnic (Ngee Ann). Since 2004, they have been working at the University Malaysia Sabah.
Prabhakaran Neelakantan completed their Master of Technology (MTech) degree in Machines and Drives at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, from 1968 to 1970. Later, from 1977 to 1980, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Power Electronics at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur.
