Nate Smith currently serves as General Counsel for Norfolk Southern, starting in August 2023. Previously, Nate held the position of Associate General Counsel and Head of General Litigation at Tesla from April 2021 to August 2023, managing extensive litigation matters including intellectual property and government investigations. Prior to this, Nate worked as Managing Counsel for the U.S. Department of Justice and served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Eastern District of Virginia. Nate also contributed to Harvard Law School as a faculty member for the Trial Advocacy Workshop in 2019. Additional experience includes roles as Senior Associate at Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz, Associate at Kirkland & Ellis LLP, and a Federal Judicial Law Clerk. Nate holds a JD from Yale Law School and a BA in Political Science from Howard University.
