Jay Merchant

Head - Fixed Income, Asia at Norges Bank Investment Management

Jay Merchant has a diverse work experience in the finance industry. Jay started their career as a Summer Intern at Record Currency Management in 2012. Jay then joined the company as a Senior Research Analyst in 2013, where they focused on global-macro strategy, produced research material, and developed systematic product offerings. In 2016, Jay moved to Norges Bank Investment Management and worked as an Economist until 2018. Jay was then promoted to the role of Portfolio Manager, where they managed investment portfolios. In 2021, Jay became the Head of Fixed Income for Asia at Norges Bank Investment Management.

Jay Merchant has a strong educational background with a focus on economics. Jay completed their Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Franklin & Marshall College, graduating in 2011. During their time at Franklin & Marshall College, they also participated in an off-campus study program at the University of Oxford in 2010, where they studied Philosophy, Politics, and Economics. Following their undergraduate studies, Jay pursued a Master of Philosophy in Economics at the University of Oxford from 2011 to 2013. Prior to their university education, they completed their International Baccalaureate from United World College in 2007. Jay's education journey began at Cathedral and John Connon School, where they completed their high school education and obtained their Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) in 2005. In addition to their formal education, Jay has obtained certifications from the CFA Institute. Jay successfully completed the CFA Level 1 in December 2013, followed by the CFA Level 2 in July 2014, and finally the CFA Level 3 in August 2015.
