Matt Genasci

Matt Genasci has a diverse work experience spanning several industries and roles. Matt is currently working as a Senior Investment Stewardship Manager at Norges Bank Investment Management since May 2022. Prior to that, they worked as an Independent Consultant at Resource Direction from January 2020 to April 2022.

From November 2017 to April 2022, Matt served as a Fiscal Affairs Department (FAD) Expert at the International Monetary Fund. Matt also worked at the Natural Resource Governance Institute as the Interim Senior Director for Regional Programs from January to December 2021. In this role, they oversaw NRGI's regional offices and programs in various regions.

Before that, Matt was a Principal at Mining Policy Group, specializing in natural resources law and policy from October 2013 to December 2019. Matt has worked on multiple mining contract negotiations in Africa and Asia. Matt also provided transactional and policy advice to a West African country on the design of a major iron ore mine.

Matt's earlier experience includes serving as the Head of Legal & Economic Programs / Legal Advisor at the Natural Resource Governance Institute from June 2007 to October 2013. Matt managed an international team and provided technical advice on the governance of oil, gas, and mineral resources. Prior to that, they worked as a Consultant at the International Energy Agency (IEA) in 2006 and as a Tax Counsel at the US Senate Committee on Finance from 2003 to 2005.

Matt began their career as an Associate Attorney in the Transactional Tax Group at McKee Nelson LLP from October 2000 to September 2003. Throughout their career, Matt has demonstrated expertise in international taxation, tax policy, and natural resource governance.

Matt Genasci has a JD degree from Stanford Law School and an MA degree in International Energy Policy & Economics from Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS). The specific start and end years for each program are not provided.
