Sofie Løchen Smedsrud currently serves as an Advisor at Norges forskningsråd within the Department for Ocean and Polar, a role held since May 2022. Prior experience includes positions as a Research Assistant and MA Student Fellow at the Fridtjof Nansen Institute, where a master’s thesis focused on the policy processes that led to the establishment of the Svalbard Global Seed Vault. Additionally, Sofie worked as a Consultant for the World Food Programme in preparation for the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize ceremony, and held roles in journalism and communication across various organizations, including Universitas and Nordre Aker Budstikke, while also completing internships at the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and WFP. Educationally, Sofie earned a Master of Philosophy in Peace and Conflict Studies from the University of Oslo and a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations and Journalism from Kingston University, along with early studies in Global Environmental Management.
