Mark John S. began their career in 1992 as a Council Officer for Oldham Metropolitan Borough, where they worked in the Environmental Health department. In 1994, they joined Western Atlas International Incorporated as a Borehole Imaging Specialist. In 1995, they joined Shell as a Senior Exploration Geoscientist, where they were posted for international assignment to the NAM. In 2000, they moved to AS Norske Shell as an Exploration Team Leader. In 2006, they became the Appraisal & Development Manager and Johan Sverdrup Project Manager at Maersk Oil Norway AS. In 2018, they were appointed as the Greater Ekofisk Area Asset Director at Total E&P Norge AS. In 2020, they became a Climate Change & Energy Transition Specialist while studying Post-Graduate Certificate in "Climate Change Management" at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. In 2021, they joined Norsk Solar as a Project Manager responsible for project maturation from end of project screening to formal hand-over to Asset Management, with a focus on countries/regions such as Vietnam, South Africa, Brazil and Eastern Europe.

Mark John S. obtained a Bachelor of Science - BSc in Geography & Geology from the University of Leeds, England between 1985 and 1988. Mark John then went on to pursue a PhD in Geology at the University of Wales, Cardiff between 1988 and 1992. Most recently, they obtained a Post-Graduate Certificate in Climate Change Management from The University of Edinburgh in 2021.
