Mechelle Thomas began their work experience as a Supervising Senior Accountant at KPMG in 1995, where they performed audit test work and resolved complex accounting issues. Mechelle then moved on to CIGNA in 1999 as an Assistant Director of Internal Audit, where they developed annual audit plans and supervised operational audits. In 2001, they joined Credit Suisse First Boston as the VP of Internal Controls for HR, managing a $65 million budget and identifying internal control weaknesses. Mechelle then joined Ernst & Young in 2002 as a Senior Manager, leading teams in large projects and providing advisory services. Currently, they are the Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer at the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC).
Mechelle Thomas earned a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree in Accounting from the Fox School of Business at Temple University. Mechelle attended the university from 1989 to 1995.

The North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) is a not-for-profit international regulatory authority whose mission is to assure the reliability and security of the bulk power system in North America. NERC develops and enforces Reliability Standards; annually assesses seasonal and long‐term reliability; monitors the bulk power system through system awareness; and educates, trains, and certifies industry personnel. NERC’s area of responsibility spans the continental United States, Canada, and the northern portion of Baja California, Mexico. NERC is the electric reliability organization for North America, subject to oversight by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and governmental authorities in Canada. NERC’s jurisdiction includes users, owners, and operators of the bulk power system, which serves more than 334 million people.
