John Russell is vice president and chief information officer (CIO) for Northrop Grumman, a technology company focused on global security and human discovery.
In this role, he leads all aspects of the company’s information technology (IT) strategy, cybersecurity, investment, and development of Northrop Grumman’s next-generation IT platforms, including human capital management, customer relationship management, mobile applications and digital engineering. His team is focused on advanced collaboration systems, business applications and data management to enable delivery of the technology solutions that are digitally transforming Northrop Grumman.
Previously, Russell served as vice president and CIO, Enterprise Services, where he was responsible for all network and enterprise application support, domestically and internationally. His team set the company’s internal IT strategy and partnered with customers and suppliers on innovative solutions that contributed to value delivery, user experience and risk management.
Prior to his CIO role, Russell served as director for the Next Gen Service Family within the IT Solutions organization and led the Solution Architecture and Engineering, Business Applications Development, and Engineering and Manufacturing organizations.
Russell joined Northrop Grumman in 2017 as director, Architecture and Engineering, and was responsible for infrastructure strategy, solutions development and implementation, and technology assessments of emerging data center platforms. Before joining Northrop Grumman, Russell ran the Army and Air Force Intel/C2 division, under the System Development sector at Leidos and led commercial software products in full-motion video and developed mission critical intelligence applications as well as cloud modernization services.
Russell earned his bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering and Technology from Old Dominion University, Norfolk, Virginia, and his master’s in Software Engineering Administration from Central Michigan University, Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. His certifications include Project Management Professional, Product Management, and SAFe Agilist.
