Carl Gillen has a diverse work experience spanning different roles and industries. Carl began their career as a Student Air Traffic Controller at the Irish Aviation Authority in 1999. Carl then worked as a Production Coordinator at Scanway Graphics International from 2000 to 2001. Following that, they joined Aviance UK as a Flight Dispatcher and Training Instructor from 2001 to 2007. Carl then transitioned to the aviation industry and joined CityJet as an OCC Duty Controller and later as an OCC Duty Supervisor from 2007 to 2014. Carl further advanced their career at Norwegian, where they held multiple positions, including Flight Operations Officer from 2015 to 2016, Ground Operations & Cargo Manager from 2016 to 2022, and currently serves as the SVP Ground Operations since September 2022.

Carl Gillen obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Aviation Management from the Institute of Technology, Carlow from 2014 to 2017. Prior to that, from 2000 to 2002, they completed a Certificate in Flight Operations/Dispatch from Technological University Dublin. In their earlier years, from 1995 to 1997, Carl attended Dundalk Institute of Technology, where they studied Computer Technology/Computer Systems Technology, but it does not specify if they obtained a degree in that field.
