Claire Lockwood

Claire Lockwood is an experienced academic and leader in the field of graphic design and visual communication, currently serving as the External Examiner for the MA Graphic Design program at Leeds Beckett University since September 2024. Claire has held the position of Head of Department for Design & Digital Arts at Nottingham School of Art & Design since April 2022 and has been leading the Visual Communication department since August 2019. Additionally, Claire oversees the Art & Design Department at Sheffield Hallam University, catering to approximately 2,000 students and 60 staff across a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Previous roles include Deputy Head of Department and Subject Group Leader at the University of the Arts London, as well as external examining positions at Central St Martins and the University of Southampton. Claire holds a Master’s degree in Visual Communication and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Graphic Design from Birmingham City University.
