Nourishing Hope, formerly known as Lakeview Pantry, is a dynamic Chicago nonprofit providing food and social services for anyone in need. Founded in 1970, we’re one of the largest and longest operating hunger relief organizations in Chicago. We also provide free, trauma-informed mental health counseling and other social services, such as job and housing assistance. We strive to serve the needs of the whole person — with respect and dignity, always.
Nourishing Hope offers our neighbors nutritious food using a choice-based distribution model and access to life-changing social services including:
Nourishing Hope serves tens of thousands of people each year, providing more than 4 million meals through our programs, in addition to partnerships with other community organizations. This year, Nourishing Hope will provide about 200,000 food and social services to our Chicago neighbors.
About the Nourishing Hope Gala
This year, we are hosting the Nourishing Hope Gala at The Geraghty in Chicago on September 20, 2024. This inspiring evening will feature fabulous silent auction prizes, an innovative smartphone bidding experience, live entertainment, and dancing. Attendees will have the opportunity to raise their paddle to support our operating expenses and bid on exciting live auction packages.
Position Summary
The Temporary Marketing Coordinator will primarily be responsible for supporting the Marketing & Communications team with writing, graphic design and event-related tasks for the Nourishing Hope Gala. The role also involves on-site support at the gala. The coordinator will also support the creation of marketing materials to support fundraising and other programmatic needs.
Locations and Schedule
This position reports out of Nourishing Hope Headquarters, 1716 W. Hubbard Street, Chicago and works across all sites.
This role is primarily onsite at Nourishing Hope’s HQ in the weeks preceding the gala. The position is approximately three months long for 10-20 hours a week, ending on October 31, 2024.
Essential Job Functions
Design materials for the gala, such as signs, slideshows, program booklet and more.
Write and edit gala-related materials.
Provide social media support leading up to the event.
Support the gala team at The Geraghty on September 20th, including but not limited to, helping with event set-up, supplies and materials.
Provide graphic design support for day-to-day marketing materials including e-newsletters, fundraising campaigns, sideshows, bulletins, flyers, and the quarterly impact report.
Act as an ambassador for the work of Nourishing Hope to the larger community.
Qualifications
High School diploma/GED
One or more years work experience in graphic design and content creation
One or more years work experience in event planning or management preferred
Strong writing and graphic design skills
Experience with Canva and/or Adobe suite a plus
Ability to move, lift and carry materials up to 20 pounds
Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
Proven ability to work independently and as a member of a team
An understanding of, and belief in, the importance of food security for everyone
BACKGROUND CHECK
Because we are a Medicaid provider all applicants who are offered employment with Nourishing Hope will be subject to a background screening.
