Ryan Hamerly is a Senior Research Scientist at NTT Research. Ryan received their PhD from Stanford University in 2016, where they worked with Prof. Hideo Mabuchi on quantum optics, information and control. Ryan's research focused on the benefits of quantum coherence in feedback control, and they developed tools to simulate and optimize large-scale photonic circuits. Ryan also investigated the use of quantum optical networks to solve machine learning problems.
After their PhD, Ryan was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where they worked with Prof. Dirk Englund on photonics for machine learning. Ryan was also a Postdoctoral Researcher at the National Institute of Informatics, where they worked with Profs. Yoshihisa Yamamoto and Shoko Utsunomiya on photonics and quantum computing, focusing on the Coherent Ising Machine.
Ryan Hamerly received their PhD in applied physics from Stanford University. Prior to that, they completed their undergraduate studies in physics at Caltech.
Some of their coworkers include Justin Holmgren - Scientist, Shin’ichiro Matsuo - Senior Scientist, and Yoshitaka Inui - Research Scientist. Ryan Hamerly reports to Yoshihisa Yamamoto, Director of NTT Research PHI Laboratories.
