Cedric de Coning

Research Professor, Peace, Conflict & Development Research Group at Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI)

Cedric de Coning is a seasoned academic and practitioner in peace, conflict, and development, currently serving as Research Professor in the Peace, Conflict & Development Research Group at The Norwegian Institute of International Affairs since 2006. Concurrently, Cedric has been a Senior Advisor at the African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (ACCORD) since April 1997. Previous roles include serving as a member of the UN Secretary-General's Peacebuilding Fund Advisory Group from 2012 to 2014 and holding various Political, Civil Affairs, and Training Officer positions with the United Nations from 1999 to 2002. Cedric's early career included the position of Associate Director at the South African Department of Foreign Affairs from 1989 to 1997. Educational qualifications include a PhD in Applied Ethics from Stellenbosch University, a Master's in Conflict Management and Peace Studies from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, and a BA and BA Honours in Philosophy and Political Science from the University of Johannesburg.
