Leader, Mentorship and Engagement at NVA Canada

Colleen Best has a diverse work experience in various roles and organizations. Colleen currently holds the position of Leader, Mentorship and Engagement at NVA Canada since November 2021. Prior to this, they founded and served as the principal of BestVet Coaching and Consulting starting from June 2019. Colleen also worked as a Writer for Active Interest Media - Equimanagement in 2015. Colleen has experience as a Speaker for various organizations since December 2013. In terms of veterinary medicine, Colleen worked as an Associate Veterinarian at Kingsdale Animal Hospital from April 2021 to December 2021. Colleen also served as the Director of Preclinical Discovery and Studies and later as a Special Advisor for Clinical Applications at Allarta Life Science Inc. from September 2019 to September 2020. Colleen's academic experience includes roles as an Assistant Professor at Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph from July 2017 to July 2018, where they taught various subjects and conducted wellness and resilience research. Colleen was also a Postdoctoral Fellow with the AWAR2E Group at Ontario Veterinary College from November 2015 to July 2017, where they developed curriculum and conducted research on wellness and resilience. Prior to that, they worked as an On Call Veterinarian at Blue Mountain Veterinary Services from May 2012 to July 2014, and as an Ambulatory Veterinarian at Caledon Equine Hospital from June 2011 to February 2012.

Colleen Best has a diverse education history. In 2005, they obtained a Bachelor of Science (BScH) degree in Biological Science from the University of Guelph. Colleen then pursued their Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree at the same university from 2005 to 2009. Following this, Colleen went on to complete a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Epidemiology at the Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph between 2011 and 2015. In 2018, they attended Cornell University and received a certificate in Women in Leadership.

Aside from their formal education, Colleen also obtained additional certifications. Colleen completed the "Positive Psychology" course from Coursera in April 2015. Later on, in June 2021, they completed the "Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the Workplace" course from the University of South Florida Muma College of Business. Colleen recently acquired the "Indigenous Canada Course" certification from the University of Alberta in December 2021.
