Nima Salajegheh, PhD, PEng

Senior Scientist at NWMO

Nima Salajegheh, PhD, PEng has a diverse and extensive work experience in various roles and companies. Starting in 2002, they worked as a Mechanical (Design) Engineer at IRITEC, where they prepared design calculations, drawings, and technical specifications, conducted stress analysis, and coordinated work with other engineering disciplines. From 2003 to 2005, they held two positions at Michigan State University, first as a Research Engineer where they simulated damage evolution and failure in the sheet metal stamping process, and then as a Graduate Teaching Associate, where they utilized different teaching methods and organized interactive discussion groups.

Nima then joined the Georgia Institute of Technology as a Research Engineer from 2005 to 2011, where their research focused on microstructure-sensitive finite element simulation of fatigue crack initiation and early growth in metallic alloys. During this time, they developed probabilistic constructs to simulate fatigue crack formation and adapted numerical approaches to study fatigue crack initiation.

In 2011, Salajegheh became a Mechanical Engineer at SNC-Lavalin, where they performed and managed Finite Element Analysis, liaised with other engineering disciplines, and provided input to project controls and report systems. Nima then worked as a Mechanical Engineer at Amec Foster Wheeler from 2014 to 2017, where they contributed as a mechanical engineer.

From 2017 to 2022, Salajegheh held the position of Senior Engineer/Analyst at Kinectrics, utilizing their engineering and analytical skills. Currently, they work as a Senior Scientist at the Nuclear Waste Management Organization, starting in 2022.

Overall, Salajegheh has a diverse background in engineering, research, and teaching, making significant contributions in the field of mechanical engineering and finite element analysis.

Nima Salajegheh, PhD, PEng, has a strong educational background in mechanical engineering. Nima started their formal education at Alborz High School from 1993 to 1997. Following this, they pursued their Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering at Sharif University of Technology from 1997 to 2002. Building upon their undergraduate studies, Nima went on to complete their Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering at Michigan State University from 2003 to 2005. Finally, they continued their academic journey by earning their PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology from 2005 to 2011. Overall, Nima's education has provided him with a solid foundation in mechanical engineering, culminating in their doctoral degree.
