Maria Torgersen

Senior Scientist Vaccine Discovery at Nykode

Maria Torgersen has a diverse work experience in the field of research and science. Maria is currently working as a Senior Scientist Vaccine Discovery at Nykode Therapeutics since November 2021. Prior to that, they worked at Oslo universitetssykehus from 2013 to 2021, where they held various roles. Maria was a Research Scientist and project leader from April 2018 to November 2021, leading a 4-year grant focused on the health implications of nanoparticle-induced changes in autophagy. Maria also headed a subproject of another grant from October 2016 to March 2018, investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying the cytotoxic effects of nanoparticles. Before that, from October 2013 to September 2016, they worked as a Postdoctoral Scientist in the group of Prof. Kirsten Sandvig, studying the cytotoxic effects of biodegradable nanoparticles. Prior to their time at Oslo universitetssykehus, Maria worked at Universitetet i Oslo as a Postdoctoral Scientist from September 2010 to September 2013, where they focused on the role of autophagy in acute myeloid leukemia. Maria also has experience as a Postdoctoral Scientist and a PHD graduate student at Oslo universitetssykehus from August 1998 to August 2010, where they researched endocytosis, retrograde transport of toxins, and toll-like receptors in innate immunity. Maria's career began in 1997 as a Technician at the Department of Cancer Research and Molecular Medicine, NTNU.

Maria Torgersen started their education at Lillehammer videregående skole from 1988 to 1991, where they studied science. Following this, they attended Bath College in 1991 to 1992, undertaking an A-level revision course in biology and chemistry. Maria then pursued their Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) from 1992 to 1996. Maria continued their education at NTNU, completing a Master's degree in Biochemistry and molecular biology from 1996 to 1997.
