Head Of Design at Observable

Jeff Pettiross has a diverse work experience spanning various industries. Jeff is currently working as a Principal Designer at Observable, where they contribute to building a collaborative platform for data analysis and visualization.

Prior to this, Jeff worked at Tableau Software for over a decade, starting as a User Experience Designer and eventually becoming the Head of User Experience Design. During their tenure, they played a key role in developing product strategy, presenting on international stages, and growing the UX team from its inception to 40 designers and managers across multiple locations. Jeff also fostered a culture of openness, talent, and diversity within the organization.

Outside the tech industry, Jeff co-founded the non-profit community theatre HEART Repertory Theatre, where they served as Treasurer and led financial and front of house operations. Jeff was also involved with the Center For Spiritual Living, Seattle, as a Licensed Practitioner and later as a Board Trustee and Secretary, where they helped people reconnect with their personal truth through prayer and spiritual practice.

In addition, Jeff served as the Vice President of the Board of Directors at the Pacific Northwest Budo Association and founded their own software design studio, 82 Protons, where they generated significant revenue and managed a team of three.

Early in their career, Jeff worked at Microsoft Corporation as a Senior Program Manager, managing projects, facilitating cross-team communication, and designing innovative user experiences for various software products. Jeff also holds multiple software design patents.

Before joining Microsoft, Jeff co-founded Alive.com, a multimedia presentation creation and hosting tools company, which was later acquired by Loudeye Corp. Jeff served as the VP of Product Design at Loudeye Corp and was responsible for the development of their web-based tools.

Jeff's career began at Verity, where they co-founded Cognisoft, later acquired by Verity. Jeff contributed to the development of Verity IntelliServ, a personalized information portal application for intranets.

Jeff Pettiross attended Choate Rosemary Hall from 1984 to 1988. Jeff then went on to enroll at Cornell University from 1988 to 1991, where they studied Computer Science.
