Sean Smith has a diverse work experience, starting in 2010 as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at Virginia Tech. In 2011, they worked as a Research Assistant at NC State University, focusing on preclinical evaluation of chitosan/Interleukin-12 in cancer immunotherapy. Smith co-founded VivImmune in 2015 before joining Amgen as a Graduate Intern in the Comparative Biology and Safety Sciences group. From 2017 to 2021, they were a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Currently, Smith is employed at Obsidian Therapeutics, initially as a Senior Scientist and now as a Principal Scientist.
Sean Smith has a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Mechanical Engineering from Harding University, which they obtained from 2007 to 2011. Sean then pursued a doctoral degree in Biomedical/Medical Engineering at the University of Arkansas as a doctoral candidate from 2011 to 2016. Lastly, from 2016 to 2017, they attended North Carolina State University where they obtained a PhD in Biomedical/Medical Engineering. Additionally, they hold a certification as an Engineering Intern from the Arkansas Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.
