Daniel Hickstein is an accomplished Principal Scientist at Octave Photonics since October 2021, specializing in nanophotonic chip technology within a versatile, small team. Prior to this role, Daniel served as a Senior Research Scientist at Kapteyn-Murnane Laboratories, where leadership was demonstrated in developing the eXtreme Ultraviolet Ultrafast Source. Career experience also includes managing VUV-generation products at KMLabs and a Technical Marketing Engineer role, optimizing applications for ytterbium-fiber lasers. A Postdoctoral Research Associate at the National Institute of Standards and Technology focused on chip-scale waveguides and frequency combs. Daniel's academic qualifications include a PhD in Chemical Physics from the University of Colorado Boulder, complemented by a Master of Philosophy in Physics from the University of Cambridge and a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from Pomona College.

Octave Photonics manufactures packaged ready-to-use nanophotonic devices and provides custom devices and systems for nonlinear nanophotonics. Our products include fiber-coupled devices for supercontinuum generation with 1550 nm lasers, the Comb-Offset Stabilization Module (COSMO) for f-2f self-referencing of laser frequency combs, and electro-optic frequency combs for generating ultra-stable pulse trains at 5 to 30 GHz repetition rates.
