Matthew Ball

Head Of CCUS Policy at Ofgem

Matthew Ball has a diverse work experience in the energy and infrastructure sectors. Matthew has held various roles at Ofgem, starting as a Graduate Analyst in 2014 and progressing to Manager in the New Transmission Investment team. In this role, they worked on CATOs and large new transmission investments. Matthew then became a Senior Manager in the New Transmission Investment team, where they focused on the development of commercial and regulatory policies for the SPV model and competition within future price controls. From 2019 to 2022, Matthew served as a Senior Manager in the Low Carbon RAB team at Ofgem. Since 2022, they have taken on the position of Head of CCUS Policy in Ofgem's Networks directorate, leading their work on supporting investment into the CCUS sector and engaging with the government on related policies and regulations. Outside of Ofgem, Matthew also served as a Member of the National Infrastructure Commission's Young Professionals Panel from 2018 to 2020. Prior to their work at Ofgem, they gained experience as a Consultancy Intern at Cundall in 2012.

Matthew Ball attended Hills Road Sixth Form College from 2008 to 2010, where they pursued A Levels in Maths, Further Maths, Physics, and Electronics. Subsequently, from 2010 to 2014, they enrolled at Durham University and earned a Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) degree specializing in New and Renewable Energy.
