CORROSION TECHNICIAN APPRENTICE:     $19.30 PER HOUR / $40,144.00 YEARLY

CORROSION TECHNICIAN I:                           $22.10 PER HOUR / $45,968.00 YEARLY

CORROSION TECHNICIAN II:                          $25.30 PER HOUR / $52,624.00 YEARLY

SENIOR CORROSION TECHNICIAN:              $27.07 PER HOUR / $56,305.60 YEARLY 

Progression in position occurs over time advancing levels within the position from an Apprentice to Tech I to Tech II and Senior Technician. As the position progresses levels it takes on more independent responsibility of each function and the Senior level is focused more on taking a leader role in the Corrosion/Compliance division.

JOB SUMMARY: This is an entry-level training position under direct supervision. Training to perform corrosion surveys throughout District service areas and maintains structural integrity of pipelines. 

Must pass the AUCSC Basic Corrosion Course Exam or obtain a NACE CP Tester Certification within 1 year of hire. 

Incumbents in this position will be held to the District’s Gold Standard for Customer Service.                                                                       

APPRENTICE ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Entry-level training position under direct supervision to perform over line surveys of transmission and distribution systems; maintains all documentation.

  2. Train to install and maintain cathodic protection on new and existing pipe, including but not limited to rectifiers, ground beds, anodes, grounding grids, etc.

  3. Assists with interference tests, rechecks and inspecting rectifier units.

  4. Collects readings on hot spots and pinpoints active corrosion.

  5. Aids in inspecting lines for atmospheric corrosion.

  6. Obtains knowledge of applicable federal, state, and company regulations.

  7. Maintains tools and equipment in prescribed manner.

  8. Maintains control of inventory items obtained from stock or carried on truck.

  9. Aids in response to Class 1 leaks.

  10. Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

APPRENTICE: High School plus zero to one year of experience in natural gas distribution corrosion control. 

TECH I: High School plus one to three years of experience in natural gas distribution corrosion control. 

ESSENTIAL COMPETENCIES:

  1. Capability to read, understand and follow instructions and directives, including District’s O&M directions, local, state and/or federal regulations or policies

  2. Solid math skills are required. Legible, understandable handwriting ability. Competency to read, comprehend and/or interpret and accurately forward detailed verbal and numeric information.

  3. Maintain a regular, dependable attendance and a high level of performance.

  4. Ability to understand and comply with all safety procedures and wear personal protective equipment;

  5. Must be able to work with a team, take direction from supervisor(s), keep required work schedules, prioritize work schedule, focus on attention to details, and follow safety and work procedures.

  6. This position requires knowledge and task evaluation as determined by Pipeline and Hazardous Material Safety Administration rule CFR 49, Part 192; Subpart NOperator Qualifications (OQ).

 TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIRED:

  1. Must possess and maintain valid Florida driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the District and its insurers.

  2. Skills to operate power tools and small lawn maintenance equipment.

  3. Capability to read, interpret and organize equipment and associated paperwork in a logically prescribed manner.

  4. Ability to perform basic mechanical work associated with natural gas facilities and pipelines

  5. Ability to install, operate, calibrate, test and repair natural gas measurement and regulation equipment throughout the District.

  6. Ability to operate a computer and have basic computer skills.

OTHER FACTORS:

  1. Regular attendance is essential to this position.

  2. Must be appropriately dressed in a clean and neat District authorized uniform during work hours.

  3. This position requires incumbent to be on the stand-by rotation for after-hours duty including weekends and holidays; maybe required to work other than normal hours with little notice.

  4. Physical Effort: Requires bending, stooping, crawling, climbing and moderate lifting. Must be capable of working from ladders and elevated areas.

  5. Working Conditions and Hazards: Works inside and outside. Exposed to rain and seasonal weather extremes. Exposed to fires, toxic fumes, electrical shocks from high voltage, and dog bites. Must be able to work with power tools and other hazardous equipment.

  6. DRUG TESTING FOR ILLEGAL DRUGS: Employees in this classification will be subject to undergo testing for illegal drugs in accordance with DOT Pipeline Safety Regulations, Code of Federal Regulation, Title 40 (49 CFR), Part 199
