Jim Hempel started their career in 2002 as a Staff Counsel and Chief HIPAA Privacy and Security Officer at HDM Corporation and HDM Benefit Solutions Corporation. There, they provided legal support, reviewed contracts, and oversaw HIPAA compliance.

In 2006, they worked as an Attorney at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, where they provided legal support to the Clinical Programs and Research Departments, focusing on negotiations and documentation for research projects.

In 2007, they joined Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska as Senior Corporate Counsel, eventually progressing to Assistant General Counsel and then Associate General Counsel/Senior Director. Jim'sresponsibilities included providing legal support to various departments, managing vendor contracting and law clerk programs, defending the company in employment law litigation matters, and overseeing legal support for a claims platform transformation project.

In 2020, they became the Varsity Head Baseball Coach at Daniel J Gross Catholic High School, and in 2021, they joined Omaha National as General Counsel and Corporate Secretary.

Jim Hempel attended Omaha Bryan High School from 1990 to 1994. Jim then went on to study at the University of Nebraska at Omaha from 1994 to 1999, earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a focus on Marketing and Political Science. Following their undergraduate degree, they pursued further education at the University of Nebraska College of Law from 1999 to 2002, where they obtained a Juris Doctor (JD) degree. In 2013, Jim participated in the ICAN-FOCUS Program, a Leadership Development Program which lasted until 2014. Additionally, in 2014, they attended the Leadership Omaha - Class 37, another Leadership Development Program, which concluded in 2015.
