Joanna L. Thompson

Joanna L. Thompson, Ph.D. has a diverse work experience spanning multiple organizations and roles. Joanna L. currently serves as the Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at One Workplace, where they establish initiatives for DEI/ESG/CSR practices. Prior to this, they were the Director of the Office for Multicultural Learning at Santa Clara University, overseeing a team and managing an office budget. Joanna L. also worked at the Center on Halsted as the Director of Racial Equity and Inclusion, where they implemented a strategic plan to increase diversity and inclusion. Additionally, they have teaching experience as an Instructor and Teaching Assistant at the University of Illinois at Chicago and as an Adjunct Faculty at Roosevelt University and Adler University. Earlier in their career, they worked as a Youth Development Worker at the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago and as a Student Counselor at West Virginia University.

Joanna L. Thompson, Ph.D. obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Criminology, Law, & Justice from the University of Illinois Chicago, where they studied from 2012 to 2018. Prior to that, they completed their Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in Criminology, Law, & Justice at the same university from 2010 to 2011. For their undergraduate education, they attended West Virginia University from 2006 to 2010 and earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Criminology & Investigations. In 2005, they received a Certificate of Completion in Forensic Science from Duquesne University. Joanna also graduated from Richard Montgomery High School in 2006 with a High School Diploma.

Additionally, they have obtained various certifications, including Mental Health First Aid USA - Adult from the National Council for Mental Wellbeing in May 2022. In May 2013, they completed Online Training on Mandated Reporter from both Praesiduim / Armatus Abuse Risk Management and the Department of Children and Family Services.
