Yolanda Wanakamik

Yolanda Wanakamik has a diverse work experience in various organizations. Yolanda'smost recent role was as the Director of Community Development at the Ontario Native Women's Association (ONWA). Prior to that, they served as the Director of Indigenous Affairs at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, where they provided leadership in Indigenous matters and facilitated resources and support for learners, faculty, and staff.

Yolanda also worked as an Integrated Policy Officer at Dilico Anishinabek Family Care, where they were responsible for policy development and research on health-related issues. Yolanda has also held positions at Lakehead University, including Coordinator of Graduate & External Relations in the Office of Aboriginal Initiatives and Acting Vice-Provost of Aboriginal Initiatives. In these roles, they oversaw strategic planning, external relations, and community partnerships.

Earlier in their career, Yolanda worked as an Office Manager at Mattice Lake Outfitters, where they supervised staff and participated in marketing and sales. Yolanda also worked as a Case Manager at Dilico Anishinabek Family Care, where they facilitated case management and service plans for child protection issues.

Yolanda Wanakamik's education history begins in 1992 when they attended Confederation College and completed the Social Service Worker Program, studying social work. Yolanda then continued their education at Lakehead University from 1995 to 1998, earning a Bachelor's degree in Political Science (HBA).

After a gap in their education, Yolanda returned to Lakehead University in 2014 to pursue a Master's degree in Education (MEd), which they completed in 2020. During their time at Lakehead University, Yolanda also obtained a Certificate of Completion in Reconciliation, conflict prevention, and the promotion of more inclusive societies from the Institute for the Study of International Development (ISID) in October 2015.
