Yolanda Wanakamik has a diverse work experience in various organizations. Yolanda'smost recent role was as the Director of Community Development at the Ontario Native Women's Association (ONWA). Yolanda then continued their education at Lakehead University from 1995 to 1998, earning a Bachelor's degree in Political Science (HBA).

After a gap in their education, Yolanda returned to Lakehead University in 2014 to pursue a Master's degree in Education (MEd), which they completed in 2020. During their time at Lakehead University, Yolanda also obtained a Certificate of Completion in Reconciliation, conflict prevention, and the promotion of more inclusive societies from the Institute for the Study of International Development (ISID) in October 2015.
