Irby Thompson has extensive experience in the cybersecurity industry, with a focus on firmware security. Irby currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer at OP[4], where they lead a team that develops an automated 0-day vulnerability analysis platform for IoT and embedded systems. Prior to this role, Irby founded and served as the President of TrueNorth Software and Solutions, a boutique security consulting firm specializing in cybersecurity R&D. Irby also held the position of VP of Security Solutions at Wind River and served as the CEO of Star Lab, a Wind River Company. Earlier in their career, Irby worked at Raytheon Pikewerks, where they held various roles including SVP of Operations and Chief Operations Officer. Irby started their career as a Senior Cybersecurity Engineer at Lockheed Martin, where they gained expertise in embedded systems engineering, reverse engineering, and offensive and defensive cybersecurity. Irby's technical areas of expertise include anti-tamper, digital forensics, multi-level security, and firmware development.
Irby Thompson completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, and Management of Technology from Vanderbilt University, where they studied from 1998 to 2002. Irby later pursued a Master of Science degree in Information Security at the Georgia Institute of Technology, attending from 2003 to 2004.
