Varun Jacob-John

Varun Jacob-John has a diverse work experience in the fields of controls software engineering, research, and automation software development. Varun is currently a Controls Software Engineer at Opener, where they are involved in system identification, control systems development, and performance tuning for experimental flying vehicles. Varun also develops and executes test plans for flight testing. Prior to this, they worked as a Graduate Research Assistant at The University of British Columbia, where they contributed to research projects for three years. Varun also gained experience as an Intern and Undergraduate Research Assistant at the Precision Controls Laboratory, University of Waterloo. Before pursuing their graduate studies, Varun worked as a Controls and Automation Software Developer at Ontario Die International and an Electrical Intern at Hatch Ltd. Varun began their career as a Software Developer at AppZero. Overall, Varun has a strong background in controls software engineering, research, and automation software development.

Varun Jacob-John completed their education at three different institutions. Varun started their education at St. Robert Catholic High School, where they attended from 2007 to 2011. Varun then went on to the University of Waterloo for their undergraduate studies, earning a Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.Sc.) in Mechtronics Engineering from 2011 to 2016. Finally, they pursued their Masters of Applied Science (MASc) in Mechanical Engineering at The University of British Columbia from 2016 to 2019.
