Andrew Shewmaker has a diverse work experience spanning multiple roles and industries. Andrew started in 2001 as an Associate Engineer at Idaho National Laboratory and then moved on to Los Alamos National Laboratory in 2004, where they worked as a Computer Scientist for eight years.

In 2012, Andrew became self-employed and worked as a Writer, focusing on technical and fiction writing. During this time, they also worked on developing three stories.

In 2014, they joined The Linux Foundation as a Member of the Job Task Analysis Committee, where they played a key role in developing a list of knowledge, skills, and abilities required for Linux system administration professionals. Andrew'sresponsibilities included conducting surveys and providing expert guidance on KSAs.

From 2014 to 2015, Andrew worked as a Ceph Intern at Red Hat, gaining experience in distributed storage systems.

In 2015, they joined Los Alamos National Laboratory again, this time as a Scientist. Andrew worked in this role until 2017 when they transitioned to UC Santa Cruz as a Graduate Student.

In 2017, Andrew joined OpenEye Scientific as a Cloud Platform Engineer, responsible for developing and maintaining their cloud-based infrastructure. In April 2020, they were promoted to Head of Backend Development, leading a team of developers in designing and implementing backend solutions.

Overall, Andrew Shewmaker has a strong background in computer science, research, and software development, with experience in backend development, cloud platforms, Linux systems, and technical writing.

Andrew Shewmaker completed their Bachelor of Science (BS) in Computer Science from the University of Idaho from 1996 to 2001. Andrew then pursued further education at the University of California, Santa Cruz, where they obtained a Master of Science (MS) in Computer Science from 2006 to 2009. Andrew continued their academic journey at the same institution and completed their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Computer Science from 2006 to 2016.
