Billy Magee

Chief of Research, Innovation & Education at Operation Smile

Dr. Billy Magee is the chief of research, innovation and education at Operation Smile. He is also director of international programs in the Division of Plastic and Maxillofacial Surgery at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, associate professor of surgery in the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at University of Southern California (USC) and chief of plastic and reconstructive surgery at Shriners for Children Medical Center — Pasadena.

As the oldest son of Operation Smile’s co-founders, he has worked with the organization since age 13 and currently assists in both a clinical and research capacity. He oversees Operation Smile's Global Surgery Fellows program.

He leads the Tsao Global Surgery Fellowship in collaboration with Operation Smile and works closely with the Global Health Institute at USC. His research group collaborates broadly across the university, working with the Department of Spatial Sciences, Institute of Creative Technologies, Department of Preventive Medicine and the Center for Craniofacial Molecular Biology.

Billy received his dental degree from University of Maryland and his medical degree from George Washington University before coming to USC for his plastic surgery residency. He has been on the faculty at USC since 2008. Having worked with Operation Smile teams globally, Billy offers an energy and drive for pediatric work that extends beyond the boundaries of Los Angeles.
