J. Andres Chavarria

Technical Director at OptaSense

J. Andres Chavarria has over 20 years of experience in the geophysical industry. J. Andres began their career in 1996 as a Research Assistant at the Institute of Geophysics UNAM, conducting research on groundwater exploration using geophysical methods. In 1998, they became a Field Geophysicist at Servicios Industriales Pen~oles, conducting geophysical surveys for mining exploration. In 1999, they joined Duke University as a Research Scientist, exploring geothermal fields with geophysical methods and researching the seismicity of the San Andreas Fault in California. In 2002, they joined CONOCO as a Research Geophysicist, working on the modeling of tensor gravity data for oil and gas exploration and inversion of prestack seismic data for AVO parameter estimation. In 2005, they joined Paulsson Geophysical Services as a Geophysicist, working on processing of high resolution 3DVSP (vertical seismic profiling) data. In 2007, they joined SR2020 Inc. as VP of Data Processing, overseeing seismic processing projects using high resolution seismic data and high resolution characterization of reservoirs with 3DVSP. In 2010, they joined Vialogy as a Senior Geophysicist, working on microseismic project management, weak signal detection with quantum resonance interferometry, and nonlinear dynamics for the analysis of microseismic events. In 2011, they joined SR2020, Inc. as VP Seismic Analysis, integrating high resolution seismic images and microseismic data from 3DVSP to reservoir models, and using long borehole arrays for microseismic source location and mechanism determination. In 2014, they joined OptaSense as Technical Director and Manager Seismic Analysis, analyzing Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) data for various applications, analyzing borehole seismic data using DAS technology, and engaging in business development in the area of borehole seismic processing.

J. Andres Chavarria completed their Engineering degree in Geophysics from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México between 1994 and 1999. J. Andres then went on to pursue a PhD in Earth and Ocean Sciences (Geophysics/Seismology) from Duke University between 1999 and 2004. In 2009, they obtained a Project Management Certificate from Caltech.
