Marni Van Kessel started their work experience in 2007 as a Clinical Practice Coordinator at Orillia Soldiers Memorial Hospital. Marni later became an Accreditation Coordinator and then moved on to become a Program Director, overseeing Regional Kidney Care, Cancer Care, Genetics, and Regional Women & Children. In 2010, they joined Ontario Renal Network as a Regional Director, where they worked on aligning provincial strategies and priorities for renal care in the North Simcoe Muskoka region. In 2012, they became a singer for VK, a folk roots duo inspired by small-town Canada. In 2013, they co-founded 112 Records, an independent boutique music label.
Marni Van Kessel pursued their education starting from 1989 to 1992, during which they attended Georgian College to earn a Diploma in Nursing. Later, from 2004 to 2006, they enrolled at York University and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) degree.
