Director Of Energy Storage Strategy at Our Next Energy

Matt Irish has a diverse work experience in the renewable energy sector with a focus on environmental sustainability. Matt currently serves as the Director of Energy Storage Strategy at Our Next Energy (ONE), where they are involved in planning grid storage products and establishing a sustainable supply chain. Prior to this, they worked as a Research Engineer and Graduate Intern at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, where they gained experience in renewable energy research. Matt also worked as an EDF Climate Corps/HUD Energy Management Fellow at the Environmental Defense Fund, where they automated utility benchmarking and identified energy efficiency measures. Additionally, they served as a Power Systems Tech Engineering Intern at DTE Energy, where they proposed web automation to expedite renewable energy projects. Matt's earlier experience includes roles such as an Airborne Research Fellow at NASA, a Solar Electrification Coordinator at the Skilled Samaritan Foundation, and a Climatology Research Associate at the University of Michigan. Matt also gained valuable experience in running a small business as a Foreman at Chas. F. Irish Landscape Co.

Matt Irish attended the University of Michigan from 2012 to 2016, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSE) in Climate Impact Engineering. In 2013, they participated in a Semester at Sea program offered by the University of Virginia. Matt continued their studies at the University of Michigan from 2016 to 2018, earning dual Master's degrees: a Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) and a Master of Science in Engineering (M.S.E.), with Highest Honors. Matt'sfield of study for the dual degrees was Applied Climate and Electrical & Computer Engineering, with a focus on Power/Energy. Prior to their time at the University of Michigan, they had brief enrollment at Oakland University in 2011 and Macomb Community College from 2010 to 2011.
