Job description

At Ouster, we build sensors and tools for engineers, roboticists, and researchers, so they can make the world safer and more efficient. We've transformed LIDAR from an analog device with thousands of components to an elegant digital device powered by one chip-scale laser array and one CMOS sensor. The result is a full range of high-resolution LIDAR sensors that deliver superior imaging at a dramatically lower price. Our advanced sensor hardware and vision algorithms are used in autonomous cars, drones and many other applications. If you’re motivated by solving big problems, we’re hiring key roles across the company and need your help!

We are looking for a Sr Test Engineer to build automated systems to characterize, assemble, and calibrate our current and next generation LIDAR sensors. The ideal candidate will have experience developing automated opto-mechanical systems, analyzing data, and communicating the results to cross-functional teams. You will work with an exceptional engineering team to push the design envelope of Ouster LIDARs and make affordable 3D sensing a reality.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design, develop, and integrate system-level and sub-assembly-level tests to push the envelope of the Ouster Lidar products
  • Create scalable turn-key production stations to characterize, assemble, and calibrate our products
  • Work cross-functionally with mechatronics, embedded software, electrical, and optical engineers to define system corner cases and drive the process of system improvement
  • Work with the Quality, Customer Success, and Field Application Engineering teams to improve the sensor self-diagnostics and automate root cause analysis

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechatronics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, materials science, or related degree
  • Strong high-level programming skills (e.g. Python, C#, C++)
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD tools (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Experience with mechatronic systems (e.g. motion control, optical alignment, automation)
  • Experience with computer vision, and optical based metrology
  • 4+ years of experience delivering on mechatronic systems in a production environment

BONUS QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Electrical engineering fundamentals (analog design, circuit debugging)
  • Experience in modern team software development tools such as git, code reviews, and test driven development
  • Experience with manufacturing environments and equipment
  • Experience with CI test systems (Jenkins, Gitlab CI/CD)
  • Experience with data analysis (JMP, Tableau, SQL)
