Jiandong Ruan's work experience includes serving as a Principal Software Engineer at Outreach since September 2019. Before that, they worked at Microsoft in various roles, such as Principal Software Development Engineer in Business AI, Speech Recognition Engine, Skype, and Windows Networking. During their time at Microsoft, Jiandong Ruan worked on projects involving computer vision, deep learning, optimization of neural networks and inference performance, prototyping autonomous robots, troubleshooting call setup time issues, optimization for long latency communication links, speech recognition engine optimization, designing and implementing multi-platform support for real-time communication media stack, designing new WiFi driver models, implementing Windows WiFi stack and TCP/IP Chimney Offload, and designing adhoc sharing protocol for Zoom media player.

Jiandong Ruan began their education in 1988 at Tsinghua University, where they pursued a Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in Chemical Engineering. Jiandong completed their undergraduate studies in 1993. Subsequently, from 1993 to 1996, Ruan attended Peking University, where they obtained a Master of Science (MS) degree in Computer Science. Jiandong then went on to Michigan State University and studied Computer Science from 1998 to 2000, although no specific degree is mentioned.
