Farinoush Sharifi, Ph.D.

Data Scientist at Overair

Farinoush Sharifi, Ph.D. has held various roles in the transportation industry since 2015. From 2015 to 2016, they were a Graduate Assistant Researcher at the Texas A&M Transportation Institute, where they conducted map matching algorithms and multivariate analysis on wrong-way crashes, assisted with data reduction and analysis of crossings at pedestrian hybrid beacons (HAWK), and appraised potential research grant opportunities. In 2016, they also held a Traffic Intern role at Gunda Corporation. Since 2022, they have been a Data Analyst- Product at Overair, where they have incorporated their data analytics and statistical modeling skills into transportation sustainability and infrastructure optimization at the Environment and Air Quality Division. Specifically, they have assessed operational feasibility and economic workability of fleet electrification, estimated the total cost of ownership (TCO) and societal benefits for an electric fleet, utilized a dynamic programming-based heuristic technique to optimize fleet charging schedule and infrastructure, developed a Crash-Warning-Emission database and an R Shiny dashboard to project emission impacts for traffic rerouting, automated random generation of crashes and congestions at the regional level using historical data, employed a multi-objective optimization for variable message sign (VMS) location selection and evaluated societal benefits, collaborated in developing a cloud-based platform integrating transportation, emission, and energy models, simulated regional traffic congestion and emission impacts for a diverse array of infrastructure improvements, conducted statistical analysis and zero-inflated modeling for frequent zero-valued observations, and managed a research project from proposal writing to delivery.

Farinoush Sharifi, Ph.D. obtained a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from Sharif University of Technology between 2009 and 2014. Farinoush then went on to pursue a Master's Degree in Transportation Engineering at Texas A&M University between 2014 and 2017, followed by a Doctor of Philosophy in Transportation Engineering from Texas A&M University between 2017 and 2022. Additionally, Farinoush Sharifi, Ph.D. has obtained certifications from Lynda.com and the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI Program) between 2015 and 2020.
