Masa Hirvonen

Chief Engineer, Fly-by-Wire (FBW) at Overair

Masa Hirvonen has extensive work experience in the aerospace industry, starting in 2000 with Gulfstream Aerospace. In various roles at Gulfstream, they served as an Electronic Systems Engineer and later as the Electronic Systems Technical Lead for the Advanced Flight Controls program. Masa was responsible for the development and certification of the Fly-By-Wire flight control system and was involved in system simulation and flight test support.

In 2007, Hirvonen joined Honda Aircraft Company as the Technical Director of Advanced Research. Masa held multiple roles at Honda Aircraft, including Senior Manager of Systems Integration and Manager of Systems Engineering, Integration, and Analysis. Masa led the Systems Engineering group and was involved in advanced research and system integration.

From 2019 to 2021, Hirvonen worked at Aerion Supersonic as the Technical Director of Flight Control Systems. In this role, they were responsible for the technical aspects of flight control systems development.

Hirvonen then joined Honda Research Institute USA, Inc. in 2021 as the Engineering Director of Vehicle Management System. Masa held this role until 2023.

Currently, Hirvonen serves as the Chief Engineer of Fly-by-Wire at Overair, starting in 2023.

Masa Hirvonen holds a Master of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering from Helsinki University of Technology. Additionally, they pursued Avionics Technology at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Masa Hirvonen obtained certifications as a Flight Instructor (CFI, CFII, MEI) from the Federal Aviation Administration in 2014. They also hold certifications as a Commercial Pilot in Multi-Engine and Instrument from the same institution, which they obtained in 1998.
