Laura James

Laura James has held a variety of roles since 2015. Laura began their career as a Director and Principal at Newton Halewood Ltd. Laura then became an Associate and Technology Principal at Doteveryone in 2015, an Engineering Advisor at Field Ready in 2015, an Entrepreneur In Residence at the University of Cambridge in 2018, a Founding Trustee at COFARM FOUNDATION in 2019, a Board Chair at Now Play This CIC in 2020, a Chief Technology Officer at OPEN (Online Progressive Engagement Network) in 2020, and an Engineering Director at Overstory in 2022. During their time at Doteveryone, they worked to change how tech is made and used to support a fair, inclusive and sustainable democratic society. At Field Ready, they participated in the Singularity University accelerator. At the University of Cambridge, they helped establish the Trust & Technology Initiative, an interdisciplinary research network exploring the dynamics of trust and distrust in relation to internet technologies, society and power. At OPEN, they worked to build a sustainable global movement for progressive change. At lowRISC CIC, they supported the setup and launch of Google's OpenTitan program, creating the first open source silicon root of trust.

Laura James completed their PhD in Engineering from the University of Cambridge in 2005. Laura had previously obtained a MA and MEng in Engineering from the same university between 1996 and 2000.
