Kurt Van Gunst has worked in the scientific field since 1997. In 2005, they moved to Cytori Therapeutics as a Research Associate III - Flow Cytometry Operator. In 2007, they began working at BD Biosciences as a Research Reagent Sales Specialist. From 2008 to 2015, they were a Flow Cytometry Specialist IV at La Jolla Institute for Allergy and Immunology. In 2015, they moved to Human Longevity, Inc. as a Flow Cytometry Specialist. From 2017 to 2020, they worked at Juno Therapeutics, Inc. as a Sr. Associate Scientist - Cellular Phenotype and Sr. Associate Scientist - Product Sciences. In 2020, they began working at Bristol Myers Squibb as a Principal Scientist, Head of Custom & Process Analytics. Currently, they are a Principal Research Scientist at Ozette Technologies, where they are working to unlock the immune system to prevent disease using novel computational methods and machine learning.

Kurt Van Gunst obtained a Bachelor of Science in Animal Physiology and Neuroscience from UC San Diego between 1995 and 1999. In April 2015, they received a Certified Cytometrist, C.Cy. certification from the International Society for Analytical Cytology (ISAC).
